SHIFT (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your information. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and safeguarded when you use the SHIFT mobile app, browser extension, or related services (collectively, the “Service”).

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information

We may collect limited personal information you voluntarily provide, including:

  • Email address (for account access and support)

    App usage data (non-identifying, for functionality and improvement)

    Financial Information

SHIFT allows users to connect financial accounts through Plaid, a third-party financial data provider.

When you connect an account:

  • SHIFT does not receive or store your bank login credentials

  • SHIFT may receive limited account metadata such as

    • Account name

      • Account type

      • Last four digits

      • Read-only balance information (if enabled)

    SHIFT does not have the ability to initiate transactions, transfers, withdrawals, or payments.

    Browser Extension Data

    SHIFT’s browser extension runs locally on your device to support mindful spending moments.

    When enabled, the extension may:

    • Read the content of webpages you visit to detect when you are viewing a shopping cart or checkout page

    • Identify displayed purchase totals in order to show a spending reminder

    This processing occurs entirely on your device.
    SHIFT does not collect, transmit, store, or sell webpage content, browsing history, or purchase information from websites you visit.

    The extension only accesses what is necessary to provide its functionality and does not interact with retailer systems.

2. How We Use Information

We use the collected information solely to:

  • Provide and operate the SHIFT app

  • Display connected account information within the app

  • Support intentional spending reflection and decision awareness

  • Improve app performance and user experience

  • Respond to user inquiries and support requests

SHIFT is designed as a behavioral awareness and financial mindfulness tool, not a banking or payment platform.

3. What SHIFT Does NOT Do

To ensure clarity:

  • SHIFT does not move money

  • SHIFT does not execute transactions

  • SHIFT does not initiate bank transfers

  • SHIFT does not make purchases on your behalf

  • SHIFT does not sell user data

  • SHIFT does not share financial data with advertisers

All financial actions remain fully under the user’s control through their financial institution.

4. Third-Party Services

SHIFT uses trusted third-party services to operate the app, including:

  • Plaid for secure bank connections

  • Infrastructure and hosting providers

SHIFT only accesses the minimum data required to support its features.

5. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect user information. While no system is completely secure, we work to minimize risk and limit access to sensitive data.

Users may request deletion of their data at any time.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You may:

  • Disconnect linked financial accounts at any time

  • Request access, correction, or deletion of your data

  • Discontinue use of the app at any time
